A VPS advertised at $6.49 a month sounds like a bargain. Then the checkout arrives. That price covers a 24-month plan paid upfront, so the real bill is $155.76 before tax.

South African VAT of 15% could add about $23 on top. Your bank then converts the total to rand, often with a card fee.

Hostinger lists its VPS plans from $6.49 a month on a 24-month term, before tax. A local plan billed in rand, on a Johannesburg or Cape Town server, can look very different on the same day.

This guide compares what South African buyers really pay: rand totals, server locations and renewal prices.

Quick answer: Black Friday falls on 27 November 2026, and Cyber Monday follows on 30 November. Some global hosts already run sales.

Compare the 12-month total in rand, including VAT. Then check the renewal price before you pay.

When Do Black Friday VPS Deals Start and End in South Africa?

Black Friday falls on Friday, 27 November 2026. Cyber Monday follows on Monday, 30 November.

However, the sales do not wait for those dates. Hostinger’s offer started on 19 October and runs to 14 December. Bluehost’s holiday sale ends on 30 November, and it applies at checkout without a code. HostGator also has an early-bird offer live.

Local hosts move differently. None had announced a 2026 VPS offer at the time of writing. Still, past years show what to expect. Truehost, for example, has run deep Black Friday VPS discounts from Cape Town and Johannesburg, including 20% off promos.

Early offers can match the peak price. Others improve later. So track your shortlist and set a spending limit instead of waiting for a perfect deal.

Also, some big names rarely discount. One tracker found no Black Friday VPS deal last year from DigitalOcean, Vultr, Linode or Hetzner Cloud. Don’t build your plan around them.

Best Black Friday VPS Hosting Deals in South Africa, Provider by Provider

Local offers are not live yet. Until they arrive, each entry below gives the regular price, the location and what to check.

1) Truehost South Africa

vps hosting guide

TrueHost sells South Africa Linux VPS plans with root-level control. You choose from Ubuntu, AlmaLinux, Debian, Rocky Linux, and Oracle Linux.

These plans suit local apps and workloads that need total control over their virtual environments.

Best for: developers seeking affordable VPS hosting.

2) HostAfrica

HostAfrica is a Western Cape host with more than 20 years in business. Recent listings show entry plans ranging from R130 to R185 per month. Larger plans climb into the thousands of rand.

Some plans use container virtualisation. So confirm that your plan gives you the root access you need.

Best for: buyers who want a long-running local host with pan-African reach.

3) Domains.co.za

Domains.co.za has operated since 2001 and hosts at Teraco Isando in Johannesburg. Its VPS plans use NVMe storage and DDR5 memory. Recent listings put entry plans near R209 a month.

Best for: developers who want quick storage close to local visitors.

4) xneelo

xneelo has operated since 1999. It was formerly Hetzner South Africa, so older guides may still use that name. The company sells shared, dedicated and cloud servers. A recent comparison put its Cloud 1 plan at around R560 per month.

Best for: businesses that want a long track record.

5) Afrihost

Afrihost is a household name, mostly for home internet. Its VPS plans use SAN-attached HDD storage, according to a recent provider guide.

That suits bulk storage. However, it may feel slower for busy websites. Entry pricing sits near R460 a month.

Best for: large file storage on a Linux or Windows server.

International hosts with live sales

Three global hosts already run sales.

  • Hostinger: up to 67% off VPS plans, from $6.49 a month on a 24-month term. The sale runs from 19 October to 14 December.
  • Bluehost: 15% off one eligible product, 20% off two or 25% off three. The offer needs 12-month terms and ends on 30 November.
  • HostGator: an extra 15% off one eligible one-year product, or 20% off when you buy two.

Before you buy, check two things. First, does the host offer a location in Johannesburg or Cape Town? Without one, your visitors connect to a distant server. Second, does it bill in rand? If not, expect currency swings and card fees.

Other local names also sell VPS plans. Telasera, Absolute Hosting, EliteHost and 1-grid are worth a look once their sales start.

Which Black Friday VPS Is Cheapest in Rand?

Compare the total for 12 months, not the monthly rate. Use this method:

  1. Multiply the promo price by the months in the promo term.
  2. Add the renewal price for the remaining months.
  3. Add 15% VAT if the price does not include it.
  4. Convert dollar prices at the day’s exchange rate, then add card fees.
  5. Divide the total by the GB of RAM to get the cost per GB.

Here is an example. The numbers are illustrative and not a real offer.

  • Plan A: R120 a month for all 12 months, VAT included. The total is R1,440.
  • Plan B: R80 a month for three months, then R250 a month. The total is R2,490.

Plan B looks cheaper on the sale banner. However, Plan A costs R1,050 less over the year. On a 4 GB plan, Plan A works out to R360 per GB.

Cheapest does not mean best. So also compare vCPU count, NVMe versus HDD storage, bandwidth limits, backups and support hours.

Local or Overseas Server: Is a Johannesburg or Cape Town VPS Worth It?

A local server usually wins for local visitors. Data from a European server often takes well over 100 milliseconds to reach South Africa. A Johannesburg server cuts that sharply. As a result, pages and checkouts respond more quickly.

Data centre quality also counts. Domains.co.za, for instance, hosts at Teraco Isando in Johannesburg. Ask any host about power backup and network redundancy before you pay.

Data rules add another factor. POPIA sets conditions on sending personal information outside South Africa. So, a business that stores customer data should check where its servers are located. Ask a lawyer about your own case.

Still, an overseas VPS can be the better buy. Choose it for a global audience or for dev and test work. Latency barely affects those jobs, and the price may be lower.

How to Spot a Weak or Fake Black Friday VPS Discount

Some sales look better than they are. Watch for these signs:

  • Intro-only pricing. Many sales cut only the first term. The renewal price then returns to normal.
  • “Up to” claims. The biggest percentage often applies to one plan on the longest term.
  • Doubtful strike-through prices. Compare the sale price with the regular price on the plan page a week earlier.
  • Unmanaged plans. A cheap plan may leave setup, security and updates to you.
  • Hidden limits. Look for bandwidth caps, CPU throttling and paid backups.
  • No refund window. A money-back period lets you test the server before the sale ends.
  • Dollar billing. A weak rand can raise your bill after you pay.

Which VPS Size Should You Buy on Sale?

Match the plan to the job, not to the biggest discount.

  • 1 to 2 GB RAM: staging sites, small WordPress sites and light apps.
  • 4 GB RAM: WooCommerce stores, business websites and small databases.
  • 8 GB of RAM or more: several client sites, reseller setups, and heavier apps.

Also, check the upgrade path. Some hosts bill upgrades at regular rates, so the sale price may not carry over. Finally, avoid overbuying. A large plan on a 24-month term locks in a cost you may not need.

How to Claim Your Deal Before It Ends

  1. Pick the plan size and the billing term.
  2. Read the renewal price on the checkout page.
  3. Apply the coupon if the offer needs one. Some sales apply automatically.
  4. Have your domain, payment method and operating system choice ready.
  5. Test the server inside the refund window.
